Eva's Obituary

“full of love and hope and the colour red, … your girl, eva”

Eva Dien Brine Markvoort … what a life! She lived passionately, with purpose, and died on Saturday, March 27. She left a legacy of love and made a difference in the lives of thousands of people both in her personal life and in her online community. Eva’s life, almost 26 years long, was defined by her challenges related to cystic fibrosis. She knew how to live for the moment and her magnetic personality drew people in at every turn. Eva took nothing for granted and she had no time for complainers. Her life was full of vibrant moments and she appreciated all the beautiful aspects of her surroundings, constantly adjusting to the limitations presented by her health. Eva filled every room she entered, she engaged herself in the present and she learned to turn the most challenging situations into positive experiences. She was a force! Eva has enriched the lives of her parents, Janet Brine and Bill Markvoort, her siblings Annie and Hunter, her loving extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, and her dearest core ‘team’. Eva's family expresses their gratitude for the tremendous support provided by friends, family, neighbours, colleagues, the medical team, and Eva's online community.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Eva’s memory to the Vancouver Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be gratefully accepted at www.cfvancouver.ca . All who read this are also encouraged to register as an organ donor at www.transplant.bc.ca . For her online community, Eva’s Celebration of Love will be streamed online on April 30 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

How can I become an organ or tissue donor?

While you are alive:

* discuss your wishes regarding organ and tissue donation with your family and give them clear directions about what you would like to see done in the event of your death
* sign the back of your Alberta Health Care card if you wish to be an organ and/or tissue donor
* If you want to be a living donor, (for kidney, bone marrow or a lobe of the liver only):
o contact your local Bone Marrow Registry or transplant program
o find out what your blood group is
o have your doctor do a medical check-up to ensure that you are healthy
o make sure that you are coming forward as a donor willingly
o be aware that the process of becoming a living donor requires about three months of testing, education and communication with your doctor(s)

That's such a wonderful obituary :) I was wondering what it was going to say. It's hard to say everything about Eva in just a few sentences.

The final quote is one I learned from Eva, and I absolutely love it. I've never seen Moulin Rouge but it's so true

Beside this year is 200 anniversary birth of Frideric Chopin who was died becouse of the same sick as Eva.
She was dying during Eastern - great Katholic Celebration...Poland is Katholic country, so we have double celebretion in that year , 5 years deadth John Paul II anniversary. In that peiod of time , during great spring start was dying young , brave and clever girl from Canada...
At last Eva was really great and special person who deserve for love and respect in my country - Poland.

thank for posting

beautiful ...... everything about her is lovely

I am so sorry for your loss. I said in an
earlier comment and I am tearing up it's outrageous that she's
gone. I sent my organ donation form in the mail today
in Eva's honor.

My brother and sister committed suicide and until I met
Eva I had given up, she inspired me to try harder and
to make a better life for myself -- thank you for raising
beautiful Eva.

I know you likely don't want the attention shifted to you, nor did you post this with that intent, but I just wanted to send my sympathies regarding your siblings and to say "Stay Strong!"

We should all learn to live in the moment, with purpose and gratitude, just as she did. Thank you for sharing.

I still find it hard to believe she's gone.

Eva was such a beautiful, inspirational person.

I became an organ donor, just for her.

Even though her body is gone, her soul lives on.

Love. Love. Love.

Lovely, for a lovely girl

That is a beautiful picture of Eva...

I don't remember her
for the rooms she filled
with her presence, strength and vibrance.
I remember her for how
she filled the heart
of many a person.
Some she knew
and knew her,
others she barely knew
and who barely knew her,
save her words and wisdom written down.
And those who've come after her passing
to learn about a life too short but yet full
by the standards of many.
The rooms once filled
may stand empty.
But the hearts of those people touched,
whilst raw with her passing,
will remain full...

Love love LOVE!

Dear Family,

There are no words that can convey how amazing I think Eva was and how incredible I think all of you are. All of you have been so blessed to have each other. It is such a cliche thing to say that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you - but they are. My husband is an organ donor and I have never wanted to be. I'm re-thinking that choice.

Blessings, Peace, Comfort,
from the United States

So true! I hope she knew how loved she was. And through her, how much has family is loved.

One question, will it be streamed online on this site? Is this where we go to view her memorial service? Is that possible? And for those who are in different time zones, will be service be posted on this site? I'm a bit confused!!

Thank you, the Markvoots for letting all of us in during this difficult time.

I'm an organ donor because of her.

What a beautiful obituary. So, so true!

I think of Eva daily. And, like others here, have made it my mission to LOVE more. LOVE as hard as I can everyday for the rest of my life.

Eva wanted a to become a legacy; a legacy she's become.

~ Sweet CF Worrier ~
~Thank You to Eva's Family ~

Eva Strength and Grace are amazing.
I have encouraged Organ Donation for some time
now, but in the last few months I have doubled
my efforts. Eva has even made me look into a TX
for my self. I was not going to until Eva...
Eva Has Put a Face on Cf for the World to See.
Unashamed and very Open with Her life and how living
with Cf really is.

Eva Inspired The World to Live everyday no matter
what is going on or wrong. Life is to Be Lived and
Eva Is Proof of that. Growing up and living with Cf
I have always heard 65 Roses and was reminded of the nastiness
of Cf. Now When I hear 65 Roses I think of a Beautiful
Young woman named Eva and Her bright Smile, Red now
to me is Pronounced "EVA" ..

Eva's bright light of Hope and Love shall never dim...
Love Love Love ...
