ideas ideas ideas

just thought i'd give an update with some of the projects i'm working on...

the film

to watch the documentary 65_RedRoses

in Canada the 42 minute version can be viewed online at

in order to see the film in the states we need to broadcast it nationally.
from what i understand we could broadcast on PBS but we need a sponsor to do that.

anyone know anyone who's company would be interested in sponsoring the national broadcast of 65_RedRoses in America?

I thought I might as well throw it out to all the readers because you never know how far a message can go and where these things end up. It can't hurt right?

PBS International is working on selling the broadcast rights in every other country around the world. Hopefully it will get picked up soon. I know there are a lot of friends in Britain, Holland and Australia who would like to see it!

As far as selling individual DVD copies go.... we'd love to! But first we have to actually distribute it. And create the DVD's... which costs the production company money.

In order to measure the level of interest, we are collecting a list of people who are interested in buying a copy. If you would like to help out by adding your name to that list please e-mail...

Sing for CF - Christmas Caroling Online!

Here is the facebook invite I sent out to my friends...

Hello Friends!

For the past 11 years I have hosted an annual 'Sing For C.F.' Caroling Party where we eat, drink and travel around the neighbourhood singing merrily on doorsteps to raise money for the C.C.F.F.

As most of you are aware... this year is a bit different as I am not able to travel around the block. Do not be discouraged as this simply means a new type of event!

Instead of bringing the carols to others doorsteps we will sing inside the comfort of my living room and let people in via the internet!!!

With the success of the film and a recent 'spotlight' on my blog (http://65redroses.livejournal.com) I have developed quite the online following so perhaps this is a better way for this wonderfully fun seasonal favourite to unfurl.

If everyone could please arrive by 6 then we can mingle and eat a bit before starting the singing promptly at 7 p.m. Don't worry about your singing ability as the idea is simply to raise a joyful chorus!
I will set up a live video streaming from my mac to my blog and people around the world will be able to witness our antics from the comfort of their own homes. My readers will have already voted their favourite carols which we will lead up to. I will probably also film each song to be able to post after the party so that the fundraising can continue all the way to Christmas Day. A link to an account set up by the Vancouver chapter of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be posted with the live stream and video performances to allow for easy to use secure donations for anyone wanting to contribute.

We will sing for 30-40 minutes and then resume the party... eating and drinking and general great times!

I'll probably have about 20 friends tucked in around my big red bed to sing to all of you out there. I'm still working out the kinks of how to live stream the party... any tips?
I'll be using my imac which has a little camera mounted in it that I use on skype without any issues.

I'm really excited to have my friends over and get into the Christmas spirit!! I'm so glad I don't have to give up on caroling...

I will post a poll soon to find out the holiday faves! (as a side note... the songs that are available to choose are the ones in my songbook that I have already printed out so I can't really just add a new song or I'd have to print out 20 copies)

New Idea - LOVE it! *kiss kiss*

Dr. Carol-Ann Courneya is my friend Cyrus' professor at UBC and her project was the inspiration behind the original painted heart-on-chest photo.

She came up with another idea based on the following photo. Her idea is to get a cosmetic company behind a campaign that would pair the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with the sale of a lipstick called '65RedRoses' and an image campaign using me and the red hair/lips. Raising awareness and funds for important CF research and care.

Cool hey?

Just thought I'd throw it out to the interweb and far reaches of readers to see again if anyone knows anyone who knows anyone with any pull in a cosmetics company or any ideas as to how to do this...

I spoke with Sterling at the Vancouver Chapter of the CCFF and we are interested in starting a group of 'ideas' people in the new year to start fundraising among my generation. My goal is to get events going that are super fun and that people my age would want to do regardless if it were a fundraiser or not...

Have I ever told you guys about Lawn Bowling? I can't remember.... I'll have to share it with you if not... later I'm afraid.

I must sign out!

Off to help my mum and Annie decorate more of the house!

Everything sounds awesome, I hope all the support/sponsors will come asap!

On a stronger note, I look forward to hearing more about fundraising for the CCFF in Vancouver. I live in Toronto at the moment and am moving out to Vancouver as of January and would love to be able to continue volunteering and helping fundraise & raise awareness. :)

great! i'll let you know when we get the committee together!
Dec. 13th, 2009 04:59 am (UTC)
first off i just want to say that is an awesome pic of you!

i live in the U.S. and work with a lot of pediatric CF patients.
your story is so inspiring. it's amazing what you guys have to go through.
i have been wanting to see your documentary for the longest and would love to buy it, so i'll most def be adding my name to that list.

also, on a random note:
i have no idea what type of music you are into, but have you ever heard of a band called jack's mannequin? he has a song called "caves" that has very inspirational lyrics. although the song is about his battle with cancer, i thought you might find it relatable. it's a very positive and uplifting song.

anyway, i hope to read another post from you soon!
much love,
Dec. 15th, 2009 10:12 am (UTC)
i'll check it out. i do like the band but had never heard of that song. thanks!

This made me so happy! You sound busy busy busy~
I especially love the lipstick idea!

Also, the PBS thing... It might be good to spread the video around to companies through email/mail. Get a couple copies of the documentary and ask for some support.
It might be good to get into contact with some CF organizations too. They'd probably have better connections.

But for now, I'll see what I can find. :)
Dec. 13th, 2009 05:17 am (UTC)
actually, i'll send the link to the video to whatever online CF organizations I can find... i think if we could get others to do the same, they'd definitely look into it.
Dec. 15th, 2009 10:13 am (UTC)
yeah i think i might have a contact at the CFF.. just from an email they once sent me about a youtube video i put up.. i don't have any copies of the film but Nimisha is getting back from India next month and then we'll get back on it full time.

Please, link away. I really hope this happens.

maybe try doe deere (doedeereblogazine.com)? she makes her own lipsticks, including some crazy colors, and seems like a really sweet girl. i could see this as a mutually beneficial relationship: you get publicity for CF research and awareness, and she gets publicity for helping with that... i suppose it's worth a try if you're willing to go into it with someone who is not THAT well known (as well-known as, like, maybelline or MAC or whatever).
Dec. 13th, 2009 05:49 am (UTC)
her makeup line is lime crime (limecrimemakeup.com)
Dec. 15th, 2009 10:26 am (UTC)
wow! i just checked it out! amazing colours! and rad fashion too. i will pass this on to carol-ann... i think she is looking into major companies at the moment..thanks for the help!
Dec. 13th, 2009 06:01 am (UTC)
So beautiful. There are no words, except to say thank you Eva.

Dec. 13th, 2009 06:14 am (UTC)
Just stumbled on your site this evening and was reading some of your more recent entries. I couldn't think of anything to say that wasn't either overly sappy or a terrible cliche, but you mentioning that you wanted to stream your caroling over the internet reminded me of this site...

That might work well for what you're wanting to do.

Anyway, you seem like such an awesome person, thanks for being you!

Sincerely, Sam Wise

Hi Eva!

Sounds like you are keeping busy! So many great projects that you have on the go! That would be soooo neat if you could get the lipstick thing to work out - I hope someone reading here has some kind of connection to get that rolling for you.

Dec. 13th, 2009 06:49 am (UTC)
Hey lady! I work in film as a makeup fx artist in the States... so I know people at some tv stations and such, as well as people with various cosmetics companies. I can't promise anything... but I'll definitely start sharing links with people and putting some feelers out. I can't imagine anyone not feeling completely inspired into doing something, anything to help after seeing your blog! So who knows! Maybe we can get you distribution AND lipstick! Never hurts to try! :) :)
Dec. 15th, 2009 10:27 am (UTC)
exactly what i was thinking! thanks for passing it on... you never know what might roll in the door!
Dec. 13th, 2009 07:20 am (UTC)
You're such an awesome burst of energy. :) Keep fighting, sweet girl!
Dec. 15th, 2009 10:30 am (UTC)
will do!
Dec. 13th, 2009 08:05 am (UTC)
Wow!!! Love the lipstick idea! I work for Harley Davidson and am pretty familiar with our promotions person... I will put the word out to het=r regarding a CF fundraiser. I'm not sure if I have any pull, but who knows!
It elates me ( and I am sure everyone on here ) to see the x mas joy radiating from your blogs! Love your spirit!
Dec. 15th, 2009 10:30 am (UTC)
Thank you! Every little bit helps!
Dec. 13th, 2009 01:31 pm (UTC)
ooh I want to see this sooo much! Ever since you started MAKING the film. I am sure PBS would do something...
Dec. 15th, 2009 10:30 am (UTC)
They will.. if we get a corporate sponsor.

65red roses lipstick
Hi Eva,

I think the idea for developing a lipstick is fabulous. What about a cosmetic company such as MAC sponsoring this and a portion of the sale would go towards CF foundation? Good luck!

Re: 65red roses lipstick
That was our idea exactly!! It would be so great! MAC already has their own foundation that fights AIDS/HIV so if they are willing to branch into other charities too it would be amazing (I allready own all their red lipsticks too hee hee!) but if can get the same idea rolling with another company that would also rock!
Dec. 13th, 2009 02:19 pm (UTC)
I love your Christmas spirit Eva. Your spirit is touching mine! Thank you!

Gail :-)

PBS sponsorship
Hey girl,
I am addicted to your blog...the sunny and cloudy!! You are an awesome girl.

My sister lives in Los Angeles and worked in the modeling industry for a while. She has some connections. (of course it may not lead anywhere....but I sure will try and I know she will as well!)I emailed her your entry about the PBS thing and she wanted to know what it entails. Do you know any details, like amt. of $, etc....

email me any details you may have lawson.mike@mac.com.

Re: PBS sponsorship
I just emailed the director asking these questions so i will let you know as soon as i do..
Dec. 13th, 2009 09:43 pm (UTC)
lipstick etc
Mac does this with AIDS research funds... they may want to stay focused on one cause but they are CDN and could be open to doing something! If not, maybe there is a smaller local line that would.
Also, t-shirts.. especially eco produced with either a print of 65 red roses or a heart motif for valentines...?
All of these things take management however so you will need someone to take this on for you.
If you want the t-shirt idea please email me and I can help with this!
Dec. 15th, 2009 10:39 am (UTC)
Re: lipstick etc
That's a really cool idea. I might be interested in this if we end up doing a concert in the new year with to raise awareness... almost like a concert t-shirt. hrrrmm.... mind is spinning!

and regarding the mac thing... yeah i think that is what gave us the idea. we are trying to see if we have any connections to MAC and if they would be willing to branch away from their own AIDS foundation...hence the looking into other cosmetic lines... thank you gor the help!

Re: lipstick etc
Cool... let me know. I am heading to China in the new year and back before olympics but would be happy to take this on for you! I can get wholesale tees and or whatever you want... and screen them etc. :) keep my email handy if you want to do this!
Dec. 13th, 2009 09:45 pm (UTC)
Can you not add your documentary to youtube? and make it viewable in all countries? not sure of the logistics of this.

Also, I was involved last year in some fundraising for a mental health charity that I am part of. We had a big event in the middle of the summer in Hyde Park London. We made it a sponsored 3 legged race, where people had to do as many laps as they could of a circuit. There where prizes for most laps, most falls, most raised and such. We also had a dress up as your screen name competition too which was pretty fun. Maybe you could do something via live journal for this? Something like donate a set amount to enter via photos and judge it and send a prize out to the best one.

Its one thing I have to admire in all you people with CF, you all hold raising money/awareness very high on your list of priorities. Its certainly something to be admired.
Dec. 15th, 2009 10:42 am (UTC)

we can NOT add it to youtube because that would mean the film was worth absolutely nothing even though it took hundreds of thousands of dollars and two years to make. there are distribution rights and broadcasting rights that are bought by companies and thats how the production companies pay for the films to be made.

It's a 72 minute feature film and a 52 and 42 minute television versions also exist.
Dec. 15th, 2009 04:22 pm (UTC)
ah, didnt know this.
Hope you can continue to find sponsors. Maybe try places like the UK CF trust and the CF trust for other countries too as Im sure lots of them will have connections. (The hospital I am in at the moment have a large CF unit (lucky for me as I have had some similar treatments as the staff are more upto date with CF things) though I dont have much contact with them, im sure they would have media contacts.)
Dec. 14th, 2009 01:09 am (UTC)
Do you have any idea how I could get it to be aired on PBS?? I really want it in the US!!! I want to see it ARGHH
Dec. 15th, 2009 10:42 am (UTC)
help us find a corporate sponsor!
Dec. 15th, 2009 04:05 pm (UTC)
I have loads of time (thank you stupid economy lol) so I'm going to try!!! And I have some pretty big in the community photographers that might be able to help me with this. So, I'm going to see what I can do. I'll have to learn about this since I don't know how, but that's the easy part. Someone will do it. They can't not~!
Dec. 15th, 2009 04:06 pm (UTC)
Okay, and what should/could I show them about the film when asking them to sponsor the film? The website? Or is there additional or special information I need?
Dec. 14th, 2009 05:45 am (UTC)
Lip Stick
Ohhh I think the idea for the 65RED ROSES lipstick is awesome.

Dec. 14th, 2009 07:17 am (UTC)
I stumbled across your story through tumblr - a promotional image for the documentary was posted in a red hair blog.

I immediately began looking for a way to watch it, even checked Netflix, to find that it's still gathering steam, and I'm in the US to boot. I'll be putting my name on that list and getting the word out where I can.

You will make it through this. It takes the hard times for us to grow.
Dec. 14th, 2009 10:14 am (UTC)
I just thought of something - Amazon offers a sort of print-on-demand service, I've seen it.

And I've bought DVDs from Amazon with that before - they are nice, well done, they don't look cheap or anything.
Dec. 14th, 2009 10:21 am (UTC)
Oh, and on the lipstick too, because I have such a short attention span this morning (though I've been parusing around your story and your journal for the last 3+ hours), I would recommend contacting someone like Aromaleigh. She does fundraiser work (she's actually releasing a whole collection of custom eyeshadow colors created as part of a fundraiser pretty soon), and she does formulate her own products (limecrime was a good suggestion, but she sells private label lipsticks, so I'm not sure if she could do a custom color) and would be able to do a custom color really easy.

Dec. 15th, 2009 10:43 am (UTC)
we cant just make our own DVD copies as we don't own it. the production company owns it. it took hundreds of thousands of dollars and two years to make. there are distribution rights and broadcasting rights that are bought by companies and thats how the production companies pay for the films to be made.

It's a 72 minute feature film and a 52 and 42 minute television versions also exist.

US Makeup and TV
Hi Eva,
I've been following your story after connecting through "CF Husband." Lurker here to de-lurk! I'm a 35 year old with CF who had a double lung tx 7 years ago this upcoming Jan 3rd. I always get a bit melancholy this time of year when the holidays bring joy to families like mine and sadness to the young man's family who died on New Years Day and gave me the gift of renewed life. I strive to honor his life every day.

You amaze me and the things you write about speak directly to me. The waiting is so hard. I can't imagine doing it a second time like you are. I have been keeping you close to my heart and in my thoughts and prayers and I would love nothing more than to see you shiny and sparkly and refreshingly renewed with some new "air bags." You sound like a very fun, cool person--one I would be honored to consider a friend.

Anyway, I do happen to have a few connections in the US--one who works for Redken and one for NBC. Redken doesn't do lipstick but they do hair color! I've put in a word to see if anyone my friend knows wants to spearhead a 65 Red Roses hair color :)

And my friend at NBC doesn't rank very high but who knows? He might have other connections I don't know about. I also have a friend on the West Coast who does a lot of movie and TV stuff and a friend in LA who is involved in the Los Angeles TV scene. So, though I can't give you lungs, I can give you a bit of hope! The one thing I have (and you seem to have, too!) is lots of friends--many of whom surrounded me during my tx journey and know how precious and fragile our lives are.

Blessings to you, from a former New Jersey girl now permanently settled in North Carolina. Sending warm fuzzies and some possible connections your way. You are touching more people than you realize.
Your Cyster, Jill

Re: US Makeup and TV

Thank you! And thank you for the hope. You are right. It's all I live on these days. Thank you for passing on the message to others... you never know how these things happen and OH MY GOODNESS! I think the RED hair colour is AMAZING!! because my hair is MY thing!! even more then the red lips. WOW. Thanks for the hope. Please let me know if you here back from anyone.

So much love cyster!
